The Swindon & Wiltshire Local Enterprise Partnership (SWLEP) was launched in 2011 and incorporated in 2019 to champion economic growth and job creation across local communities, residents, and environments, drawing on a strategic plan that received Central Government approval in 2014, encompassing:
• Skills and talent
• Transport infrastructure improvement
• Digital capability
• Place shaping
• Business development
To achieve these goals by the stated target of 2026, the SWLEP draws on the expertise of local businesses, Swindon Borough Council, Wiltshire Council, and thought leaders from the military and education sectors. Until 2019, the SWLEP sat under Wiltshire Council, but – as with other LEPs across the UK – was provided with the opportunity to incorporate as a limited company.
