Azure Local for VDI
Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD) on Azure Local offers an on-premises Cloud consumption experience for VDI, fully integrated with Microsoft Azure. The solution integrates AVD, Azure Arc, Windows Admin Center, and FSLogix to provide an enterprise-grade, validated system, provided by Exponential-e with comprehensive solution support. This enables the deployment of Azure Virtual Desktop directly to Azure Local systems - on-premises - so extending the management capability of the Azure Portal to dedicated clusters.
The solution functions as a Cloud-native service extended into on-premises infrastructure: Azure Virtual Desktop service components, such as host pools, workspaces, and application groups are deployed in Azure, with the session hosts deployed on bound Azure Local systems. It should be noted that Azure Virtual Desktop cannot be deployed on-premises except by means of Azure Local. Exponential-e’s Azure Local solution, built on Dell APEX Cloud Platform for Microsoft Azure, layers on design, management and support services to ensure on-premises requirements are serviced by a stable, scalable, and secure foundation. This can be used to support thin-client deployments, BYOD environments, and privileged access workstation requirements.
Further capabilities include:
Cost-effectively delivering the full Windows desktop experience with Windows 11 and Windows 10 Enterprise multi-session (including for GPU accelerated requirements) using on-premises infrastructure.
Unifying the management of VDI with Cloud services via the Azure Portal.
Improving AVD performance by eliminating WAN latency between users, session hosts and data sources, as well as supporting bandwidth-intensive requirements, such as CAD applications.
Enabling the deployment of the latest, fully patched images quickly and easily, using Azure Marketplace images.
Centralising the management of updates using Azure Update Management.
Providing unified security management with advanced threat protection for VDI infrastructure via Azure Security Centre and Windows Defender ATP.
Integrating with Azure hybrid services, including Azure Backup, Azure Monitor, Azure File Sync, Azure Site Recovery, and Azure Point-to-Site VPN in Windows Admin Centre.
