Azure Local A Flexible Solution
Azure Local is highly versatile, able to support a large range of use cases. Offering scaling from 1 to 16 nodes per cluster, the solution can support everything from the smallest edge location to central data centre hosting at scale and management of all clusters via the Azure Portal.Whilst Software-Defined Networking (SDN) is a key feature of Azure Local, bringing Azure SDN into the data centre, the deployment is not dependent on this. Traditional VLAN-based networking can be used instead, if required.Data protection is central to any data centre deployments and Azure Local offers a full suite of technologies ‘out the box’ to ensure both data protection and application availability can be aligned with differing business requirements across the estate.
Storage replication enables rapid recovery in the event of local disruption, and for extreme high-availability requirements, stretched clustering offers near-continuous availability. Azure Server Replication (ASR) can also be used to enable recovery in public Cloud environments.Typifying the flexible deployment options available throughout the platform, storage replication can be deployed in both synchronous and asynchronous operating modes (typical selection criteria being dependent on the application performance and physical distance constraints) and stretched cluster deployments can run active-passive or active-active, with zero-touch recovery of critical workloads available with either approach.
Stretched clustering can also be used for planned operations, such as a data centre migration that would previously have required extension planning and coordination.
